A porch with a view…

–Mike Leigh vs. Hollywood

I’m not really a schmaltzy person. I don’t think I like it very much when a man tells me he loves me. I prefer it when a man says he likes me – 'like' is a lot more definable.

Anyway, considering I like horror, science fiction and Mike Leigh' films best. It is strange that I quite liked a film called The Notebook. As a matter of fact, I’m gonna dig it out and watch it once I’ve finished this post (in bed with some M&M’s).

My first boyfriend introduced me to the song Every Woman (by Garth Brooks). He said the song reminded him of me. He loved me like the guy in the film (The Notebook) loved the girl. Trouble was, I didn’t feel it back, not in that way anyway. I wish I could have been “the one” for him, but I wasn’t…that’s just how life do’s it.

Thing is, I AM NOT EVERY WOMAN. Nor do I want to be. I am as damaged and lost and imperfect and flawed as the next woman. I AM NOT an amazing woman. If the truth be told, it takes all the strength I have just to be an average woman; and if you knew me, you’d realize I’m kinda happy with that status quo…that’s “real life”. Real is okay by me.

However, I do think it possible to find someone (preferably with a northern English accent or an American southern accent) who’s gonna be kind to ya, laugh with ya and moreover, be willing to put up with ya. In a house somewhere in the country, with a beautiful white wrap-around porch to sit on, fight on, play on, be happy on and generally grow old on.

That’s my view anyway…

  1. Yes... finding that special someone to grow old is the most beautiful thing!

  2. Yep - 100%. Funny how you quoted me and missed the 'p' out of play so the line read: "…fight on, lay on, be happy on…". Freud would have chuckled (and quite frankly, so did I). I think I prefer your version now…hehehe
