What Women Want

- God loves a trier

It was a weird/sad thing, but it occurred to me when I started this website, in October, that perhaps my blog picture was a tad too sexual for people to take me – the writer of the blog – seriously. And that the less than modest image of myself may alienate 'some' women. The thing is, I think it naïve to look at each other in such a simplistic way. For if it were true, then conversely, all academics would have to look like Miss Trunchbull!

I decided, despite my concern, to keep my purty picture because:

  • The fact is, I’m not always gonna look like that and I for one, am gonna enjoy it while it lasts.
  • I wanted to use a picture that I took, and more importantly, a picture that I chose.
  • I REFUSE to believe that women are like that. There is nothing quite like the support of other women. The type of woman that will have read this far down the list, will already know that.
  • This is a blog not a fashion magazine - you kinda have to read it before you can discard it.
  • There is something very reassuring and humbling about judging a person based on what they look like (yes, I've done it myself) and being proved wrong.
  • I like that picture of me – it’s the one I'll have on my bedside table when I’m 'rockin’ it out' in the old folks home.
  • And because, as a very wise woman (who ironically, is actually a gay man with simply far too much fashion sense for his own good) called RuPaul says, "I learnt a long time ago, that what other folks say about me, has got absolutely nothing to do with me."
  • And finally, because: I’m nobody’s daughter. I’m nobody’s sister. I’m nobody’s wife and I’m nobody’s mother…but I am STILL here. Trying, to be loved.

    2. I remember reading your thoughts about your (very nice) picture in the past, but couldn't find this post again until you tagged it on the side today! Thank you. Your picture is great and also, although I can get disillusioned sometimes thinking this way, I like to think "not all women are like that," same as you.
