Here's a snapshot I took of my one-testicled, epileptic, paraplegic, 12-year-old pug smiling through the pain, on the beach today.

I've got a feeling we'll all be doing a bit of that in 2012 – smiling through the pain. But with any luck there'll be warmth, grit, and blue skies. And kindness to carry us when the going gets tough.
